The Roadmap was an important outcome of the first UNESCO World Conference on Arts Education held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2006. The Roadmap laid out a set of priorities in research, best practice both in schools and in community arts programs, policy development, networking and the training of teachers and artists. Coinciding with the second UNESCO World Conference on Arts Education that will be held in Seoul, Republic o f Korea in 2010, this special issue of Encounters will provide a scholarly perspective on progress that has been made on the themes of the Roadmap in the intervening four years. General Information Encounters on Education/Encuentros sobre Educación/Rencontres sur l’Éducation is published once a year by the Faculty of Education, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and the Departamento de Teoriá e Historia de la Educación, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. Encounters is published in hard copy and online. Earlier issues may be found at http://library.queensu.ca/ojs/index.php/encounters/index. The journal is managed the journal through Queen's OJS -Open Journal Systems which will be used to communicate with authors through the publication process. Instructions for Authors In order to publish an article in Encounters/Encuentros/Rencontres the authors should follow the guidelines strictly. Articles which do not follow the guidelines will not be sent for review. The articles should be original. The submission of a manuscript to the journal implies that it has not been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere and that the work contained therein is the author’s own. All articles in this journal willgo through rigorous, blind, peer review. The articles can be written in English, French, or Spanish. Articles in English should adhere to Oxford Canadian Dictionary or Concise Oxford Dictionary spelling. The editors will not send for review articles that are not properly written. Articles that are not written in the native language of the authors require professional translation if the author does not have excellent level of proficiency. Encounters will not cover costs dealing with translations or intensive editing work. The articles should be between 7500 - 8000 words. The authors should use Times New Roman font, size 12, line spacing 1.5 lines. Each article should be accompanied by an abstract of 150 words and a maximum of six key words, in each one of the three languages of the journal and a biography of the author(s) of not more than 100 words in English. The manuscripts should strictly adhere to either Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition) guidelines or to the American Psychological Association guidelines6thPlease use endnotes rather than footnotes. The titles and subtitles will follow the format of the journal. Please, consult the last issue. Tables, diagrams, and charts should be submitted as separate files, clearly marked and referenced, with short descriptive titles. Additional information (such as legends) should be added as a note. Their placement in the text should be clearly marked. Information about the author or authors should be written in a separate cover page. In the body of the article there will not be any information or reference that could allow identification of the author or authors of the article. This journal supports the elimination of sexual, racial and ethnic stereotyping and refers all potential authors to the appropriate guidelines in The Canadian Style/Guide du Redacteur Larry O'Farrell
