Canadian Music Educators’ Association/L’Association Canadienne Des Musiciens Éducateurs CALL FOR 2010 NATIONAL STUDENT ESSAY COMPETITIONS * Kenneth Bray Undergraduate Essay Competition * and * Dr. Franklin Churchley Graduate Essay Competition * ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all Canadian undergraduate and graduate students studying worldwide and also to foreign students studying in Canadian universities. TOPIC: Topics will be of the students choosing but must be relevant to some branch of music education. STYLE: Essays must be typed and must conform to standard APA style. A general guide is available under “Information for Contributors” in the Canadian Music Educator. Essays will be between 2000 – 4000 words. All charts, diagrams and photos must be supplied camera-ready. JURY: The competitions will be judged by nationally recognized scholars in the field of music education who will be selected after the entries have been received to avoid conflicts. Jurors will be announced with the winners. SUBMISSIONS: Submissions must be postmarked on or before MAY 1, 2010. No late submissions will be accepted. Contestants are required to submit four (4) copies and one electronic file (rich text format) of the essay. In order to have a blind review, the name of the author and institutional affiliation and a permanent home address and email address must appear on a separate cover sheet. No identifying content within the body of the text is allowed with respect to either author or institution. A letter from a faculty member verifying institutional affiliation and current graduate or undergraduate status must also be included with the submission. Essays must be the student’s own work but may be vetted through faculty at the request of the author. Winning essays may be published by the CMEA in the Canadian Music Educator. First place winners in each category will receive a cash award.
