The Executive award, initiated when Joan Therens was president of CMEA (1989-1991), honours executive members when they leave the CMEA Board. It was reserved for the presidents, vice-presidents, secretary-treasurers. Two exceptions have occurred: (1) The CMEA acknowledged the contributions to music education of Dr. Brian Roberts, editor of the Canadian Music Educator for many, many years. (2) Cathy Lynn Yorke-Slader received the award to show special recognition for her work under exceptional odds.
